Hammurabi's Code Activity

Hammurabi's Code Activity

Around 1792 BCE, Hammurabi became the king of Babylon. He created a strong empire, but to hold his vast empire in Mesopotamia together he had to create rules of law. This famous set of laws is known as Hammurabi’s Code, a set of 282 laws that were made public for all inhabitants of the empire to know and understand. Hammurabi reinforced his power as king by stating that the laws were handed down to him by the gods.
